On Tuesday, June 4th, 2019 KYL/D performed HOME/S. 9th St. as part of the kick-off celebration of the City of Philadelphia’s Immigrant Heritage Month activities. KYL/D Founder and Artistic Director, Kun-Yang Lin, a native of Taiwan, developed HOME/S. 9th St. through engaging diverse community members along Philadelphia’s famed S. 9th St. corridor, where KYL/D’s dance center is located and where Lin has called home for the past twelve years. The performance was in conjunction with the unveiling of an interactive art installation that proudly displays I ❤ PHILLY, following opening remarks by Mayor Jim Kenney, the Office of Immigrant Affairs, National Immigrant Heritage Month, CIC Philadelphia, and the Office of Parks and Recreation.
Immigrant Heritage Month (IHM), powered by FWD.us, is an initiative of the “I Am An Immigrant Campaign” where community organizations, elected officials, corporations, media outlets, athletes, artists, and thought leaders gather and share inspirational stories of American immigrants.
